India’s National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) is planning a 50MW solar PV plant that will be the world’s largest onshore freshwater floating solar power plant in the world. The project’s first pilot operation is due to go online in October of this year (2014) located on the lake and reservoirs in the southern state of Kerala. The project has technical know how backup form Kolkota bases Renewable Energy College and is estimated at around $70 million.
