The sauna is an apotheosis of all experience: Purgatory and paradise; earth and fire; fire and water; sin and forgiveness. It is eternal new birth. You are healed, you are made new.Constance Malleson 1936
Floating Sauna
GoCstudio has designed a floating sauna in Seattle. The sauna will be launched in the summer of 2015. They have been interested in floating structures since designing the ‘spirit pavilion‘ for an international ideas competition for the re-use of Seattle’s 520 floating bridge. Coupled with a love for saunas, they thought it would be interesting to propose a floating sauna for Seattle. Because the city is surrounded by water. The purpose of the floating sauna is to create a place of refuge for locals. To give them a new perspective on their city and provide a space to relax, reflect and reinvigorate out on the water. A journey is required in order to enjoy this floating refuge.
The floating sauna itself will be built and funded by friends and collaborators following a Kickstarter Fundraiser. Accessed by kayak, they plan for the sauna to be available for use in summer 2015.
Positioned on top of 55 gallon floatation barrels to keep the cost down and maintenance of the floatation body easy. Supported by an aluminium frame for light weight and strength. The whole sauna is made of clear alaskanyellow cedar panels. witch will turn to a very beautiful light gray color and is easy maintained.
The Kickstarter campaign was a succes and on the 2nd of october 2014 they were backed by 435 backers and managed to raise their goal of $43K.
Aquatic Urbanism will follow this project and will post an update online once the floating Sauna will be launched into the waters of Seattle
if you know of any other floating sauna project or any other floating project please inform us so we can become the #1 webmagazine for floating design concepts
